We want every visitor to our branches to leave wanting a second taste of what The Hummingbird Bakery has to offer and this requires the dedication of outstanding individuals with a passion for our products.

Our bakeries don’t run without the support of a complete team behind them from bakers through to managers. The Assistant Manager is available to support and work alongside the Branch Manager to help run the store to succeed in all its goals. You will act as an ambassador for The Hummingbird Bakery setting high standards at branch-level, uniting and spurring on your kitchen, Front of House and delivery teams to create and serve beautiful fresh baked American cakes and desserts.

What we are looking for - aside from being a people-focused manager and having a passion for fresh baking, you’ll have:

  • A positive outlook, ready to take on anything, with a personality that is reflected in your work
  • Customer service skills to wow, with an ability to make customers smile with delicious desserts
  • Exceptional communication skills with excellent spoken and written English
  • Bundles of enthusiasm and a desire to give every task your all
  • Experience managing a similar bakery business or transferable skills from a similar industry role
  • Worked in a team in a similar business
  • Completed basic Health and Safety and Food Hygiene certificates (a Level 2 is ideal)
  • Excellent planning, organisational, multi-tasking and time-management skills

Main Responsibilities

  • To support the Branch Manager by providing exceptional leadership to the team and to take responsibility to deliver the branch’s financial targets
  • To support the Branch Manager is building a kind, focused and motivating team culture
  • To work with figures evaluating the branch’s performance and actioning areas for development
  • To support with recruitment, training and development of the branch team, encouraging them to achieve their potential
  • To provide support, motivation, coaching and mentoring to your team
  • To build and maintain effective relationships in the branch and with the Support Office team
  • To motivate the team to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain our excellent product standards
  • To ensure impeccable standards of cleanliness in the branch and to promote a ‘safety’ culture within the business
  • To work efficiently as part of a team in a busy environment
  • To lead the team to comply with all Hummingbird Bakery policies and procedures
